HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!
To all of the Greyhound Moms out there, know that your Greys love you
and
thank you for giving them a warm and safe home. You are very special
to
them.
The Greyhound Pets of America/Orange County picnic was
a huge success and
tons of fun. Some of us who went spent way too much on our Greys. The
weather was beautiful and it was fun to see so many Greyhounds in one
place
in every size, color and age group. Carolyn & Jim Shofstahl's Wendy
won for
longest tail. Ann & Scott Sanders' Sprocket won "youngest dog."
All of us
felt that Jamal & Cecilia's Guiness should have won for tallest.
Missed it
by an eighth. Bummer. The best part was that 20 Greyhounds were adopted
and went off to their new "forever homes." Of that 20, six
came up north to
us. We would like to congratulate first time adopters:
Michele Lopez & Charles Roseman and Rue (their
little terrier) who
adopted Luthein (Swiss). Lulu, as they call her, will be going to
work with
Michele which makes her a very lucky little girl.
Deborah Miller & Frank Guzzardo who adopted
Theodore (Leopard).
They plan to call him "Teddy."
We would also like to congratulate
the following second time adopters:
Jamal & Cecilia Abed who adopted Killian
as a new brother to
Guiness. They are into the "beer" names.
Dan & Sarenna Deeble adopted Paris (Alannah)
as a sister to Bondo.
Together, they will make quite an impression at Show & Tells and
home visits
us in the Sacramento area.
Deborah & Jim Antich, their two children
and their Greyhound Daisy,
adopted Isaac. Now they will definitely need a bigger car.
Kimberly Conrad and Matt Lyons and their Greyhound,
Smooch adopted
Herbie Hancock. Herbie and Smooch can keep each other company when
Matt and Kim have to work.
Thank you all for giving a Greyhound or another Greyhound
a wonderful
"forever home."
The Campbell Prune Festival is May 18th & 19th. We
still have one slot left
to fill. Please call to let us know if you can help.
Since the weather is starting to turn warm and sunny,
a word of caution to
those of us who have white or black Greyhounds. The black ones really
absorb the heat and the white ones can get sunburned. Also, watch the
pads
of their feet. Hot asphalt can burn them just like it burns us.
Just a note for those of us who like to plan ahead. The
7th, 8th & 9th of
June, we have the San Jose Home Show at the San Jose Convention Center.
We'll need two volunteers per shift for that and each day has three
shifts.
Also, that same weekend is the Pleasanton Heritage Festival on Sat.
and Sun.
Another busy weekend that can result in more homes for retired racers.
Be
sure to put it on your schedule.
Have a "GREYT" May.
